Poetry- Standing on Barren Land
Standing On Barren Land
By: Christine Miskonoodinkwe Smith
Substandard housing
Concrete floors
These are not
Warehouses
Yellow lighting
Bulbs burnt out
Hanging from cords
I squint
Unseeing
Winds whistling through
Rushed buildings
Down to the foundations
Flood prone lands
That threaten to
Displace
Inmates huddled
Behind
Treaty walls
While empowered eyes
Dissect and disgrace
